Achievements

- Since 2001, PASDO was one of the partner NGOs of NERCORM Project Phase I, II and III. This was the project of IFAD and Govt of India in Manipur, Meghalaya, and Assam to improve the livelihood of the vulnerable groups through sustainable management of natural resources. As the Supervising Officer, led the team in institution building of Natural Resource Management Groups (NaRM-Gs) and women self-help groups in partner villages. The responsibility included capacity building of the institutions in developing vision, mission, objectives, rules and regulations, project planning, implementation and monitoring on the project of natural resource management focusing on land management, water management, forest management, and human resource development. During phase I, Cluster Association of NaRM-Gs was organized and supported to develop a memorandum of association and bye-laws for registration in the society registration act. During NERCORMP II focus was on Institution development including capacity building of NaRM-Gs and SHGs.improving livelihood through Horti-age activities and non-farm activities, social sector development including amenities and safe drinking water infrastructure development of the village. The infrastructure facility of the village included common facility centers such as community hall, marketing shed, etc. Under natural resources, development villages are being mobilized and capacitated to conserve forest requiring conservation of minimum 5 ha of forest area, regenerate the forest, and develop forest management rules and regulations and promotion of demonstration farm. The project emphasizes preserving the traditional farming system which is organic by default. This cluster association planted a large quantity of banana as its focus item. Today, the district headquarters market is supplied of this product by these villages.
- During 2004-2006 PASDO implemented the project on strengthening community action for biodiversity conservation of ShiruiPeak, the habitat of Shirui Lily (Liliummacklinaesealy) with the support from UNDP GEF-SGP through Centre for Environment Education, Guwahati. The work was to mobilize and strengthen the community to take up conservation program such as making bio-fencing along the core buffer zone, clearing the weeds which were choking the growth of lily plants, training youths on eco-tourism, raising nursery of lily plants, organizing community action for the protection of biodiversity, etc.
- PASDO is one of the pioneer organizations in the state for advocating for the protection of child rights. The experiences include making the community aware of child rights and various rights and entitlement guaranteed by the international and national government. Worked for communication of education for activating the government schools in the Ukhrul district. Provides leadership and direction to the team for educating the community on child rights under United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child ,Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act,2000/2006, Right to Education Act, 2009, POCSO Act, 2012, Child Labour Act etc and raising awareness on climate change. It also provides leadership to provide education on the environment and human rights among high school students in Ukhrul.
- As the first Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Ukhrul District during 2007-2012, brought the agenda of child trafficking and child abuse issues to the table of district administration and state department. Liaisoned with Govt.authorities for rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked and abused children.
- As the Chief Functionary, I provided leadership for organizing women producers into federation for addressing the issue of market linkages of their produces/products, providing skill development training during the period from 2002-2014.
- Since 2005, PASDO has been implementing the Harm Reduction /Targeted Intervention project among Injecting Drug Users and Female Sex Workers in UkhrulDistrict.As the Chief functionary –takes lead in directing the team towards project objectives, networking and advocacy with district departments/authority for ensuring services to the target community maintains oversight over the project activities and ensures the financial integrity of the project.
Out Come as an Achievement
- Poverty Alleviation Gains: Income levels have been enhanced putting several hundred families from BPL status to APL status due to concrete economic activities and skills training.
- Increased community participation in the education process reviving the functioning of Primary Schools in villages which provided an opportunity for poor children access to education.
- Environmental demonstrations/biodiversity conservation for preserving the rich bio-diversity and protecting the degrading hill environment. Several lakh banana plantations have been promoted to provide alternative livelihoods for tribals and to reduce dependency on shifting cultivation.
- Self-Group and Women’s Federation Mechanism providing opportunities for women’s economic progress and empowerment
- AIDS Awareness leading to Behavioural changes for Injecting Drug Users and Female Sex Workers.
